Growing up in a single-parent household in one of the most notoriously impoverished and crime-ridden inner-city slums surrounding Los Angeles, a naïve Shaun eventually finds himself facing the repercussions of associating with the wrong crowd. In stark contrast, James, who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, having been raised by both parents in an upper-middle-class neighborhood in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, fights to escape his father’s shadow in an attempt to carve his own path as he continues to climb the ladder of success within the legal profession. Upon reaching adulthood, the two men find themselves on opposite sides of the law, although the lines get blurred after a cornered Shaun receives guidance from his mother’s God, while James elects to dig his own grave by trying to fix his problems without the assistance of a higher power, becoming entangled in a web of deceit, greed and murder that he cannot escape.
